Vision, Mission & Values

For over forty years OUNRA has been guided by a clear and consistent sense of purpose. The Vision, Mission and Values below are not simply words on a page — they reflect the lived experience of thousands of residents who have called the Old University Neighbourhood home, and the collective commitment of those who have volunteered their time to make it a better place. They shape every decision we make, every issue we take on, and every meeting we hold.

Our Vision

“To live in a sustainable, healthy and supportive neighbourhood.”

Our Mission

“To promote, protect and maintain the viability and well-being of the neighbourhood by participating in community affairs and developments and by keeping the residents informed of important issues.”

Our Values

OUNRA is grounded in the following values, which reflect what matters most to the residents of the Old University Neighbourhood:

  • 1
A sense of community that arises from a mixed neighbourhood composed of singles, families, seniors and students.
  • 2
Institutions and features such as schools, parks, recreation areas, the Speed River and local businesses that create and sustain a liveable neighbourhood.
  • 3
Efforts by homeowners to develop and enhance their properties within the policies outlined in the City of Guelph Official Plan and By-Laws.
  • 4
Responsible intensification in keeping with the neighbourhood’s current urban design, which is mainly one- and two-storey, single-family homes.
  • 5
A healthy and vibrant urban forest.
  • 6
Open lines of communication with the City of Guelph and the University of Guelph.
  • 7
The Brooklyn and College Hill Heritage Conservation District.
